We Accept Applications to Our Youth Advisory Board in Two Ways

Choose whichever way works for you:

About Us:

TOP is the Youth Advisory Board of 501(c)(3) nonprofit Act Like You Matter. We …

    • Keep our scripts and content current to ensure it really speaks to kids & teens today;
    • Create and run our solution-driven, anti-bullying programs at K-12 schools on campus (Southern California) and live streamed (Everywhere); and
    • Create online resource videos to help kids and teens know they’re not alone in what they’re experiencing

We’re basically a think tank on all topics related to the challenges kids & teens face with figuring out and being true to who you are in a world where others are pressuring you to conform or to change so that you “fit in”.

We’re looking for kids and teens who want to make a difference in the lives of their peers, support those who feel alone or ostracized, and change their community for the better. If you’re either a youth actor, leader, changemaker, community organizer/builder, film maker, social media content creator, or a kind, inclusive, empathetic young person who wants to make a difference, please submit to join our team!

Join Our Team as We Expand Our Online Presence:

We’re adding BOTH youth actors (based in San Diego County) AND youth leaders (based anywhere!) We’re specifically seeking kids and teens who are (a) Excited about creating video content to help us deliver our messages of hope and inclusion everywhere and (b) Located outside of Southern Cal (NOTE: All meetings and rehearsals take place BOTH via Zoom and in person.)

New members will be working on various projects with us, including:

  1. Running our new public Discord server;
  2. Creating content for our TikTok and Instagram;
  3. Creating resource videos and putting them out on YouTube and our social media channels – see TOP Talks: Trusted Adults for an example;
  4. Running live streamed programs;
  5. Holding virtual Q&A sessions and creating new content on a variety of topics relevant to your generation;
  6. Performing on campus at schools (actors only).

You DON’T have to live in San Diego to be part of Theatre of Peace. Please submit no matter where you live!

 Benefits for you:

  • Stand out on your college apps with volunteer hours and a Letter of Rec from our Director (for the most engaged/active members)
  • Work toward earning the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)
  • Help empower other kids & teens to be the best version of themselves
  • Raise awareness about the effects of bullying & what each of us can do about it

Rehearsals/Meetings:

We hold regular rehearsals/meetings (“Rehearsals”) once per week, typically on Sunday mornings 10am – Noon Pacific, about 80% of the year. We tend to take breaks around the holidays and sometimes in the summer – depending on how busy we are with various projects. TOP Actors/Advocates are expected to attend at least 1 out of every 4 Rehearsals.

Rehearsals Leading Up to a School Performance:

We run our programs on site at schools in San Diego County and virtually for schools located everywhere else. When we book a school, our Director Amy will ask each actor for conflicts related to rehearsing and performing at the school. Then she’ll cast the performance taking conflicts into account. If you’re cast, there will be 3 mandatory rehearsals (typically 3 weeks in a row and on weekends) to prepare for the school program. On the performance day, you’ll miss school, but Amy will give you an excused absense letter to turn in to your school’s attendance office. No actor has ever had a problem with the school day performance being excused by their school.

Requests for Short-Term Breaks:

All members of TOP are extremely busy with school, sports, community and professional theatre, jobs, etc. From time to time as actor has so much going on that they need to request a break from TOP for several weeks or a couple months. This is never a problem with our Director Amy! All you do is explain what’s going on and how much time you’d like to have off from TOP. She’s very flexible and will work with you so that you can accomplish everything you want to do – including being part of our mission.

Want to Volunteer Without Joining TOP?

We’re looking for volunteers of all ages to help us spread our mission. All volunteer positions are remote, so you can live anywhere!
